Let's see what I missed . ..

Of course no break from my blogging routine would be complete without an excuse...

....which will be hidden in code somewhere in the NEXT blog. Actually the simple answer would be I got distracted with other computer related foolishness. I've also been keeping busy at the Tuesday open mic I host , as well as a making a few "cameo" appearances. Roughly translated , that means " let me get on the microphone , or I shall make a scene ."

Skipping through my week of the usual , I found myself basking on a patio last Sunday very glad that my bike was fixed ,making the TTC strike someone else's problem ( heh ) . After sitting in for a song with Box Full of Cash in the afternoon , I was off home to grab my acoustic , and bike over to THE BOAT , where I played backing guitar for my friend Lisa marie Kruchak. The event was a Hamilton Trading CO. affair , which meant no amplification/ microphones , just a performer their audience and the room . Inventive and refreshing , and very relaxed . I've spoken to Keith about having a spot of my own some Sunday soon. I'll let you know.

From there it was a quick bike ride to the Raq ' n ' Waq on Queen , where my friends in the bands PLAY and Blue Orange , were wrapping up the night . I seem to remember singing the Doors then finding the patio. All in all a fun night.

As for the album , I'm sure you've guessed I'd picked the title NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT as a sad but true commentary on the release date. Well true to form I am still working out the final 4 songs , and trying to schedule studio time around the many summer gigs I've been picking up.

I play the Gorilla Monsoons again tonight , and hope to have an answer to these , and at least 2 more question s by the afternoon.
we shall see...

Pete's birthday gig part 2

So it's Tuesday around 8, and Pete's not left. Naturally this means I've contracted him to play a few set's with me this evening. Not the same thumpery as on Sunday, but our other favorite brand, acoustic. Being that the evening starts with arrival and setup in about 1hour, we've decided to prepare with some old episodes of WKRP. Technically, it's research.
As for my album, I've rescheduled the next bank of recording sessions until mid-April. Part of the reason would have to be that I sang myself hoarse on Sunday( my bad ), but the larger part of it, would be that I've decided to juggle the track list a bit more. I've been rummaging through my home studio folder, and finding lots of bits that had slipped my attention for awhile.

I'm still aiming for a release in August, but by then I'm anticipating a few more changes. I have'nt completely given up the idea of making No Time Like The Present, a mix of instrumental, multi-instrumental, and my singer/songwriter music. A few things that have been made concrete concerning the album. The cover art is to be done by Owen Sound artist David Devlin. Dave is Pete's father and I've been a fan of his art since I was a kid. Always something cool on Mr Devlin's easle. The other solid plan, is the involvement of good friend and fellow musician Lisa Marie Kruchak, on the interior photography.
ok , off to the gig!

Pete's birthday gig part 1

So as promised , blog #2 of, well...

Had a Sunday night gig at the Gorilla Monsoons. Though not my usual night, it was'nt my usual band line up either. My good friends Rob Elder and Peter Devlin were in a attendance on drums and guitar respectively. The occasion was Peter's birthday( I'll let Pete tell his age to any interested parties himself). Many good friends were out and about to join in the jam, but we found ourselves playing 3 full sets from, our 10:00 o'clock start, to the final wobbly bow at 2:15. If any of you reading this were there, on behalf of the three of us, thanks!

Its good to get out the old tunes from my original 3 piece band ( JUICE ). Jamming made easy.
Oh and also, for those who were in attendance, please understand, I usually do not have amplification while I'm that intoxicated. Ok, how about this, I'm not usually that vocal when I ....hm

How about I say this, it was a party. Actually in all seriousness, we were surrounded by friends and did'nt feel the need to be, um overly polite. heh
For a written transcript of the proceedings, bring me a bottle of Jamesons and I'll dictate..

David Solomon ; "No time like the present"

So about midway through the recording process , on my first official release of solo material , I have been made aware ( by close friend / sherpa of all things SEO Melissa Mewdell ) , that " If you want to pull a music career out of your ass, you should probably stand up. "

By this, of course, my wise and crusty friend is telling me to start telling others via blogs, emails, carrier pigeon etc. , about the album, No Time Like The Present. Now for me, word of mouth has always been my mode of promo. My grammar is atrocious (right now I'm being yelled at for the abundance of spaces I like to add) , and I tend to become nervous when I know there is a written transcript floating around, of the "off the cuff" remarks I make. But here is where I've been led, so like a good horse drawn to water, I shall become a duck. These things of course only work if you add, update, and pay attention.

For those of you who know me...not a word.

So I will try to live by a few simple rules:
1. whenever I play live, or am about to, I shalt blog
2. whenever I record, I shalt blog
3. whenever I jam with my talented friends, I shalt blog

So listen for the news, about my shows, and my sophmore EP No Time Like the Present, as well some moments from what I expect to be an interesting footstompin' summer.
